Its the "Purple Room" !!

Once there, David Schumann leads them in discussion on how to grow their faith.

Prayer Partners

Prayer Partners

One of the highlights of the monthly calendar is the gathering of Prayer Partners.

These folks meet with pastor on the second Tuesday of each month and pray with him. Then they agree to pray for the ministry here at Zion every day.

Our times together are filled with insight, prayer and good conversation. Anyone is welcome to join us on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:30 pm.

We meet in the youth director’s office.

New Music Program For Sunday School Children

At the July Council meeting, members discussed the Sunday School Music Position. We approved the job description and have hired Kim Zierke to coordinate our youth Sunday Music Program.
Kim and her husband Mark have been married for 30 years and have two grown daughters, Katie and Abby. Kim says, “Worship and singing have always been a large part of my faith. That love of music first came from Barb Hugus and the children’s choir here at Zion. Now I have a chance to pass on that same joy to the children of the Sunday School.”

If you have been playing along with us on Sundays and Thursdays in Our Wheel of Fortune, what is coming on September 11, 2011 is Zion’s “Families United”. We will begin our fall schedule with our 8:00 A.M. service, followed by a free will breakfast served by none other than your council members at 9:00. A brand new Sunday School program will be explained at 9:30 with children’s enrollment. Choir practice is still between services and our second service is at 10:45. Both services will be in remembrance of those who lost their lives 10 years ago on 9/11
We had a retreat in July, with one of the goals focusing on our 10:45 service. We would like to set up a committee to continue looking at this service. If you are interested, let Pastor Karl, Cheryl Sturges or Donna Cepeda know.

High School Youth

High school Youth

The High School youth will be hosting coffee hour on Sunday,

September 18, between services. Please drop off your baked goods between 8:00 & 8:45 a.m.
A High School meeting will be at the King’s home on Saturday, September 10th at 6:30 pm. We will have a little cook-out and discuss this up and coming year. Please try to fit it in your busy schedule.

Confirmation Students

Confirmation Students

On Wednesday, September 7th, we are having a potluck dinner at 5:45 pm for all incoming confirmation students and their parents and also returning confirmation students who are now 8th graders. Please bring a dish to share and we will provide dessert and beverage. We will be going over the confirmation program and all the new requirements. We will also have open registration set for that day, too.

Confirmation Retreat

On Saturday, September 24, we will have a retreat for all confirmation students. We will begin at 7:30 am and end the day at 2:00 pm. The cost will be $25.00. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. More information at the Potluck!

KICK starts NOW !!!

KICK

Open registration dates for the KICK program:

Wednesdays, August 31 and September 7 between 6:30 and 7:30 pm.

The KICK youth program begins on Wednesday, September 14th at 5:00 pm. We will also have registration on opening night and all the Wednesdays in September.
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the KICK program. We will train in all positions. It’s lots of fun to work with our youth! The sign up poster is located by the bulletin board in the narthex.

Faith Finders meet on Sept 14 & Sept 28th

The Women of Zion are having a

“Women of Influence Tea.”
Has there been a woman in your life that has made a significant influence? Perhaps your mother, sister, wife, neighbor, or even a teacher who has left a lasting impression. What better way to show your appreciation than to place an ad or purchase a ticket for an afternoon tea?

When: Sunday May 1st Time 1:00-3:00 Hats and gloves are encouraged!
Special guest speaker is Pastor Tina Koenig Ray
Cost is $15.00 for a wonderful tea including open faced sandwiches, fresh fruit, dessert, drinks and fellowship. The cost will also allow you to put one ad in our “Women of Influence” book; each additional add is $5.00.
Men/Women, if you can’t attend, you can place an ad or two ($5.00 each) or purchase a ticket for that special women.
Tickets and ads will be on sale in the office and between Sunday services. This is a fundraiser to purchase new vertical blinds for fellowship hall! Donations are also gladly accepted .

The Prayer Shawl Ministry

given to members who are facing a difficult time in their lives. The
shawls are made by church members. Here’s where you come in—keep

Habitat for Humanity - May

We are building in Belvidere.

Habitat for Humanity has a lot near Immanuel School and will begin construction in May.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has given us a generous gift but we need to raise 10% of the money needed locally.
Look for the Habitat for Humanity table in the upcoming weeks and give a gift. For gifts larger than $25.00, you can fill out a special certificate which will be given to the family as they take occupancy.

Feed The Hungry

In March you can help feed the hungry in Belvidere and Boone County by providing the makings for an Easter meal. Please take a grocery bag from the narthex (OR use one from home) and fill it with these items— then put the bag in the box in the narthex:

Lenten Services

On the Wednesdays during Lent, there will be a Soup Supper at 5:45 pm. The soup is homemade by women of Zion.

Please come join us for dinner and then attend a Bible study after dinner with Pastor Otto. Then at 7:00 pm, we will have our Lenten worship service.

2010 Diakonia Retreat Feb 27th 830am - 230pm

Zion is hosting the 2010 diakonia Retreat this Saturday. Registration begins at 830am, Program "Outreach and Stewardship" presented by Pr. Kurt Nordby begins at 9am. The day ends by 230pm with a closing service and Eucharist. This retreat is open to everyone. There is a continental breakfast, lunch and beverages.
We are looking for hospitality volunteers (greeters, coffee and food servers, etc) If you can help, please call the church office or contact Julane Nease.

We are looking for volunteers to help out for this year’s Wednesday night program called “KICK.”

If you are handy at baking, parenting, crafts, music, clean-up, cooking, or teaching—then we have a spot for you!

Staring on Sunday, August 2, there will be a sign up sheet in the narthex for all volunteers.

You don’t need any experience. We will train you right on the spot.

Please come and join our “KICK Family” and help out our kids from Zion and the community.
